about

The Bowmore Fair was the Lammas Market held annually in Bowmore, Islay. When Bowmore became the capital, the Fair was moved from Kilarrow to Bowmore. This was met with some outrage and could possibly be the inspiration for this feisty wee tune.

James D learned the melody, Fiona Macleod, from the playing of the 1st Battalion Queens Own Highlanders whilst listening to 'Crunluath', a piping programme on Radio nan Gaidheal.
