The opening melody was written by Calum in response to the dance rhythms of a Maori Haka. The band later approached Scott Morrison to compose lyrics in the Haka tradition that identify with the land and the culture - driven by the title name Hautapu or ‘Sacred Breath’.

The second melody was composed on location at Muriwai Beach surf club during the initial meeting of the 'Boomerang Project' in January 2014. Muriwai is located on the West Coast of New Zealand's North Island. The beach itself has very dark sand, a remnant of ancient volcanic movement in the area. The people we met there and the place itself were more than enough inspiration for the tune!
